MYN
Map Your Neighborhood
&
MYN Leader
CERT training is designed to better prepare yourself to take care of your family, your neighborhood, and your community (City of Alhambra) in the event of a major disaster. MYN address the needs of “taking care of your neighborhood.”
This training program is dubbed "MYN" and features the goal of responding to the needs of one's neighborhood within the first hour (golden hour) of a major disaster such as a 7.0 earthquake. This contrasts with an expected city-wide response of 24-48 hours or more.
MYN is patterned after the state of Washington's "Map Your Neighborhood" program. The training materials include a highly sophisticated DVD and handout. It condenses a lot of material in a short span and space.
There are 15-20 neighborhood units involved. These families meet together to get organized (initial 90 minute meeting). The MYN Leader is a CERT member who guides the group through the intricacies of preparedness, organizing SAR's, and what to do first, second, third, etc. on an individual and group basis.
One important aspect is train up the next MYN Leader by having him/her attend a MYN meeting before leading one.
Would you be interested in becoming a MYN Leader for 15-20 family units in your block?
As a MYN Leader, you will have the support of an Alhambra CERT Association Board member or in the future, a veteran MYN Leader who has already organized his/her neighborhood.
Contact Mark Nisall, Training Coordinator if interested in becoming a MYN Leader. Further information is presented below. This proposal was presented at the January 17l 2012 ACA Board meeting.
